Synthesis and coordination study of a cobalt (II) complex of a multidentate ligand havinghydroxyl group by experimental and theoretical Methods

In the present work, a Schiff base ligand, H۲L, was prepared by condensation reaction of ۲-hydroxynaphthaldehyde with { ۱,۳-Bis-(۲-amino-phenoxy)-propan-۲-ol, followed by reduction of the resulting Schiffbase with NaBH۴ in methanol. Reaction of the ligand with cobalt(II) acetate gave a complex of the form CoL.DFT calculations were used to analyse the electronic structure of the complex gives results that are consistentwith the measured spectroscopic behaviour of the complex
