چکیده مقاله:

Iraq admits public abstention every election cycle. This study argues that the public's perception of a static political process, combined with factors like the electoral system, makes this topic unpopular. Political repercussions may include party and bloc agreements on high-ranking sovereign seats and government portfolios. These ramifications can include financial and administrative corruption and social and economic causes that cause poverty and unemployment. The research shows that the voting system's bias towards big political parties discourages voters. This bias is reinforced when political factions pass election laws that benefit them. Iraqi voters have also suffered political alienation, which arises from seeing successive governments fail to solve the population's concerns and provide the fundamental amenities needed to live a good life. Thus, the voter felt forced to not vote to avoid supporting a candidate he had chosen several times without witnessing any difference. Sectarianism affects position quotas in dominant parties, not electoral credentials. Dismal economic and social conditions, high poverty and unemployment rates, partisanship, and political corruption prevented Iraqis from voting. Lack of a compelling political effort also contributed to this outcome.
