Investigation of inrush current in powertransformers and its simulation with EMTPSoftware

Inrush current is one of the important things in power system, which has gained specialattention nowadays due to its significant impact on the life of high-voltage equipment. Thiscurrent causes the energizing instant current peak to increase several times caused bysaturation of the transformer. The main feature of this current is having a large DC component,many harmonics and large size, which can have various effects such as reducing the qualityof electricity, reducing the useful life of the transformer, incorrect operation of protective relays,stress and mechanical stress on the coils and core. In this study, a comprehensive view of theinteractions and performance of the power network can be provided by modeling the inrushcurrent of the transformer with the help of EMTP software.
