review on Ba contenting glass filler for dental resin cement

In the last few decades, glasses have found many applications in medicine. These days,glasses are one of the main materials for restoring teeth and can even be used as implants.Due to the aesthetic aspects, glasses have become the main competitor of metallic restorationmaterial. However, many factors are important in choosing a good dental material. Therefore,despite the commercialization of many dental glasses, research continues to improve theirproperties. Among these factors are linear-elastic mechanical properties, wear and fatigue,thermal compatibility, adhesion to the tooth structure, water sorption and solubility,translucency and opalescence, radiopacity, anti-cariogenic properties, and clinicalperformance. This article reviews the research done on one of the most widely used dentalglasses, barium-containing borosilicate glasses. These glasses are used as fillers for glassionomer cement and resin cement.
