چکیده مقاله:
Listeria monocytogenes is an aerobic or facultative anaerobic gram-positive bacterium that can betransmitted through food and cause listeriosis in infants, the elderly, pregnant women, and people withimmune system defects. Since different species of Listeria are widely distributed in nature, foodcontamination may occur in the environment before harvesting the products. In addition, the presence ofListeria species in the feces of animals has been reported without disease symptoms. Hence, this pathogencan be easily isolated from the food environment of animals and humans. This review evaluated the levelof L. monocytogenes contamination compared to other food pathogens in different countries. Moreover, the listeriosis control laws and regulations were also reviewed in the United States, China, and Europe.Studies demonstrate that in the United States of America, about ۲۵۰۰ people get listeriosis every year, andin Europe since ۲۰۰۰, the incidence of listeriosis has increased, especially in the elderly. Continuousmonitoring of ready-to-eat foods, seafood products, and dairy products can lead to a reduction in theincidence of food poisoning. Considering the high mortality rate of listeriosis compared to other foodpathogens, it can be suggested to consider strict criteria and standards for evaluating the health of foodand seafood products.
