چکیده مقاله:

Background and Objective: Macrorhabdus ornithogaster is an anamorphic yeast that belongs to theAscomycetes branch and is often observed in the throat and pre-stomach of diseased birds such as thecockatiels. This microorganism can be seen in the form of a stiff and straight rod with a round end, ۲۰ to۸۰ micrometers long and ۲ to ۳ micrometers wide, by taking samples from the scrapings of the digestivemucosa and feces of infected birds and performing warm staining. Vegetative cells are elongated, ۲ to ۲۰μm in length, and divide by fission. Cells are single or in short chains of two to four. Ascospores are notformed. It is gram-positive, but only the cytoplasm is stained with gram staining. Therefore, consideringthe importance of the mentioned disease, the aim of this study is to investigate the level of contaminationof cockatiels in Tabriz city with this microorganism in ۱۴۰۱.Methods: In this research, samples were taken from the mucosal scrapings or feces of ۱۲۰ suspectedcockatiels who were referred to veterinary clinics from different areas of Tabriz city. Then, after the warmstaining, the obtained samples were examined under the light microscope and Flutak technique.Findings: Out of ۱۲۰ samples under study, ۱۸ cases were identified as infected with Macrorhabdusornithogaster, which shows that ۱۵% of the total number of investigated cases were infected with thementioned yeast. Among the most important clinical symptoms recorded in sick birds, we can mentionpresence without clinical symptoms, bloating, lethargy, green diarrhea, cachexia, vomiting, high appetite, and anorexia in advanced cases of the disease. Conclusion: Considering the percentage of contamination obtained in this research and the spread ofMacrorhabdusornithogaster among birds, quick diagnosis and hygiene along with appropriateprevention and treatment methods can be very important.
