The Influence of Language and Literature on Empowering Genders

This paper stems from a concern with how language and literature have the ability to provide genders withpower and function as a vehicle to empower one gender over another. By using research data provided byscholars and linguists, and by taking a survey through literary works written by eminent authors and otherliterary figures, this paper explores how the language we employ can empower genders, and how literary workshave provided genders with power through the history. The language we use consists of features and elementsthat are able to empower men. These features are deeply rooted in the patriarchy societies that the human racehas lived in during the past centuries, and the impact these societies have had can now be seen in the way inwhich we use language. By shedding light on these features of language and providing instances of howliterature has changed the course of the history and empowered genders, this paper tries to address this issuesand raise awareness on these matters.
