General Assessment of Environment Impacts of Dams (Case Study of Baroogh Dam

The impacts of dam on the regional environment are reviewed. The scientific progress and ability for greater exploration of environmental and resources, as well asconcerns about the depletion of natural resources and upsetting the natural balances and cycles, have turned the attention of scientists to the environment and itsinfluencing factors. The study tries to identify and analyze the details and impacts of project execution at construction and operation phases of dams through a check listmethod for the two alternatives of project execution and no-project. The short assessment results showed the negative impacts to be insignificant compared with themain objectives of the project. The Leopold matrix method was applied to assess theproject’s specific impacts on environmental parameters. Since the site of the plan its technical specification were known, it was possible to incorporate mitigatingmeasures within the frame of the implementation schedule
