Water's Role in Cityscape's Aesthetics Case Study: Water in Gonabad City

Urban authorities have used available water resources in cities in various ways. Among these, the authorities in Gonabad have tried to promote urban landscape s quality efficiently by creating various elements including fountains, waterways, and pools. For this means, this study is aimed towards analyzing effective parameters in urban landscape s quality promotion and specifically analyzing water s role in urban landscape. This study is of the analytical- practical type in which information is gathered through field study and also interview with experts and professionals. The evaluation and analyzing of effective parameters in urban landscape s quality of Gonabad for existing conditions is accomplished using photography and SWOT technique. Also, rating and analyzing the effective parameters in quality promotion of urban landscape is accomplished using TOPSIS model. The results suggest that despite having numerous aqueducts in urban landscape and therefore the high potential for implementing a sort of water-based urban design, no effective measures is done towards urban landscape s quality, and it is suggested to use water in urban design and to create water-based elements in urban waterways and to make more attention in water s role in urban spaces renovation.
