چکیده مقاله:

In recent years, the pollution of the wastew aters with dyes is becoming a major environm ental problem due to the growing use of a variety of dyes. Dyes usually have a syn thetic origin and complex aromatic m olecular structures which are more stable and more difficult to biodegra de. It is know n that wastewaters co ntaining dyes are very difficult to treat, since the dyes are recalcitrant molecule s (particularly Azo dy es), resistant to aerobic digestion, and are sta ble to oxidizing agents. Textile, paper, plastics, an d cosmetic industries u se a wide v ariety of dy es to color their products and discharg e large amo unt of effluents including dyes whi ch are very toxic and coul d cause seri ous ecological problems. Therefore, dye pollution in water stream is a major environm ental probl em. The methods of dy e removal f rom industrial wastewaters could re quire many processes s ch as bio logical treatment, coagulation, electrochem ical techni ques, adsorption, and oxid ation.The use of cheap, high efficiency and ecofriendly ads orbent has been studied as an alter native source of activated carbon for the removal of dyes from waste water. This study investigat es the use of activated carbons prepared from ChamomillaMatricaria as a local low c ost, and available in Iran for the removal of direct red dye from aqueous solution.
