Bind ing and s pectral i nvestigati on on interaction of Cu(Pir ox)۲(DMF)۲ with ct-D NA : A T hermod ynamic a pproach

Piroxicam (PX) (۴-hydroxy-۲-methyl-N-۲-pridyl-۲H-۱,۲-benzothiazine-۳-carboxadiamide-۱,۱ - dioxide) (Scheme۱ a) belongs to a class of non-stero idal pharmaceuticalswith anti-inflammatory properties which are used to treat rheu matoid, arthritis and post operative inflammations[۱]. Drugs belonging to the non-steroidal anti-inflamma tory drug group (NSA ID) are not only used as anti-inflammatory and analgesic agents, but also exhibit chemoprev entive and chemosuppressive effects on various can cer cell lines. Cu(II) c omplexes of these NSAIDs show better a nti-cancer effects than the bare drugs. Th e Cu(II)–NSAID complexes have also been implicated to have better anti cancer effect. It has been show n that the structure of the Cu(II)– piroxic am comple x is a bis c omplex having octahe dral geomet ry and the crystal of the complex from DMF has monoclinic crystal struc ture[۲]. Th e probes for nucleic acids reported include organic dyes, suc h as ethidiu m bromide (EB),bisi midazole, m etal complex and photosensitive agent. EB (Sche me۱b) is a powerful mutagen widely used in bio chemical research fo r visualiz ing nucleic acids[۳].
