Exploring Data Mining Applications in Library Management with a Focus on Information Science and Knowledge Management

Data mining is the technological process of extracting knowledge patterns from a massive dataset or a data warehouse. In this process, data mining integratesartificial intelligence, statistical analysis, and database management systems, to extract knowledge from the mass of data stored. A major problem is that although organizations/institutions have access to large volumes of data, they fail to effectively develop the data into knowledge systems. This study explores the most important applications of data mining in the field of library management by focusing on information science and knowledge management. Thestudy identifies thirteen major dimensions that collectively encompass numerous functions of data mining in systematically managing a library.
