چکیده مقاله:

Objective: Midwives play a great role in maternal affairs. We aim to examine the midwives' work behaviors in creating mothers' childbirth experiences. Methods: with keywords “childbirth experience”, “midwives”, “behaviors” we did the search in PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane Library databases. We reviewed ۲۵ studies. Results: Assuring mothers of their support and care, gaining mothers' trust, explaining the interventions and their causes before performing them, as well as the delivery process in an understandable language to mothers, asking mothers' permission before performing examinations, allowing mothers to participate in the Decision-making process, respectful behavior towards mothers, comprehensive and timely response to mothers' questions are effective and abandoning mothers, ignoring their needs, not paying attention to mothers during interventions, being disrespectful to mothers and their companions, creating a noisy and crowded place disregarding the necessity of peace and quiet in maternal ward have been the ineffective work behaviors in creating mothers' childbirth experiences. Conclusion: purposeful training of communication skills to midwives is necessary from the beginning of university education. Also doing monthly/weekly review of midwives’ behaviors and designing training work skills programs for those whom work in maternal wards and setting a comprehensive work ethics guidelines seem to be helpful.
