Isolation and identification of Escherichia coli isolated from broiler chickens

Colibacillosis is a localized or systemic disease of production poultry associated with the bacterialpathogen avian pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC). The disease may present in a number of forms includingcolisepticemia, air sac disease, peritonitis, swollen head syndrome, and salpingitis among others. The purposeof this study was determined isolation and identification of E. coli isolated from broiler chickens. To performthe study 166 samples with symptoms pericarditis heart were collected from poultry farms broiler chickens.All samples were subjected for isolation of E. Coli using biochemical test and the presumptive isolatesauthenticated by DNA sequencing of 16srRNA genes. The results obtained indicated that 58 strains of E. coliwere isolated. The incidence of E. coli isolation was 34.94% in diseased broiler chickens.Therefore E. coli strain were isolated from organs of sick birds from colibacillosis cases as determined byfield veterinarians on the farms.
