Effectiveness of group reality therapy based on choice theory on anxiety of the women with generalized anxiety in Tabriz

Introduction: Anxiety is a general term that includes physical, psychological and behavioral changes occurs automatically in dealing with threats and dangers. Goal: The goal is to evaluate the effectiveness of reality therapy based on choice theory on anxiety of the women with generalized anxiety in Tabriz. Method: This research is a quasi-experimental study with pre-test and post-test design with control group. The statistical population consists all women with generalized anxiety disorder referred to psychological clinic in Tabriz during the implementation of research and clinically diagnosed by psychologists. Available sampling method was used to select the samples. Thirty patients with generalized anxiety disorder were selected and randomly assigned to control and experimental groups. For experiment group, ten sessions of reality therapy based on choice theory were conducted and no intervention was done in control group. Subjects in both groups were studied in two pre-test and post-test stages using Cattle anxiety questionnaire. Univariate and multivariate analyses of covariance were used to analyze the results. Results: The results of analysis of covariance showed that group reality therapy based on choice theory was effective on the level of anxiety in women with generalized anxiety in the experimental group (P <0.0001). Conclusion: Due to the effectiveness of group reality therapy based on choice theory for reducing clinical symptoms such as anxiety, it is suggested to use this method besides other psychotherapies and medications.
