Anti-Corrosive Nano Clay Coatings

Recently, some types of clays especially montmorillonite (MMT) have attracted great attention in paint industry because of its nano meter sized layered structure, high cation exchange capacity and availability at low cost. In this paper, it was tried to introduce the structure, properties and surface modification of clays. In addition, methods of dispersion of nano clays in coating and types of nano clay coating were reviewed. The effect of MMT on corrosion resistance and barrier properties of coatings was also discussed. Fially, some researchs in the field of anti corrosive nano clay coatings were mentioned.
