Iran with a large area and variable habitats is among the countries with high variation in plants. Moreover, it is the origin of high amount of agricultural crops, distributed to the other parts of the world. Identification, introduction and exploration of Iranian plants were started by scientists of the word since long time ago. Now a day, introduction of the plants is done by the publication of floras. Preparation of Flora of Iran goes back to 1850, and then some Floras covering Iran were prepared. Anyhow, no complete flora for Iran with the Persian language has been published. Therefore, the plan of a flora with Persian language was prepared in 1988. First number of this Flora was published in 1988. Now, after 20 years since the plan was started 57 families including 429 genera and 2115 species have been published. Usually, each family is published in a numbers, but large families are published in more numbers. The Flora for about 2374 have already been prepared, and waiting to be published. Therefore, altogether 4489 species have been published or prepared. Considering the total number of species, it is estimated that 10 more years is needed to complete Flora of Iran. In this period about 40000 specimens have been determined and more than 90 new species have been described.
