An investigation on Diet of Spirlin, Alburnoides eichwaldii in Kaboodval, Shirabad, Tilabad and Zaringol Streams, Golestan province

Spirlin, Alburnoides eichwaldii (De Filippi, 1863) (Cyprinidae family) with lowtolerance to water pollution, is considered as a proper bio-indicator to aquaticenvironments. There are little published works on its biology particularly on theirnatural feeding in river ecosystems. Although this species has no economic value, butplays an important role in the open waters in terms of ecological niche. One of themost important factors in ecological niche of rivers is its food web. Therefore, thisstudy aimed to review the works on the feeding of the spirlin, in several streams inGolestan province (Gorganrood basin). The studies showed that this fish feed aquaticinsects and algae including Ephemeroptera, Trichoptera, Chironomidae (Diptera) asthe main prey and mature larvae Coleoptera (Odonata), green algae, Simulidae(Diptera), Strachironomidae (Diptera) as accidental bait.
