چکیده مقاله:
The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between personality characteristics andacademic procrastination of secondary high school students. The statistical population of this studyincluded all male and female students of secondary high school of the city of Orzooiyeh in Iran as420 students (200 boys and 220 girls). In this regard, a sample of 201 students (96 males and 105females) were selected by stratified random sampling method on the basis of gender and accordingto Morgan table and responded to the short form five-factor personality Inventory (NEO-FFI)Rathbloom and Solomon academic procrastination questionnaire. Data obtained from thesequestionnaires were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as mean, variance and standarddeviation and inferential statistics as regression. The results of data analysis showed that amongfive personality characteristics, two characteristics of neurosis and consciousness have arelationship with academic procrastination in both male and female groups commonly andneurosis predicts the academic procrastination positively (r2= 0.161 female and r2=0.302 male) andconsciousness predicts the academic procrastination negatively (r2= 0.316 female and r2=0.241male). Extroversion characteristics in female students (r2= 0.125) and agreeableness in malestudents (r2= 0.152) showed a significant negative relationship with academic procrastination. Thisis while openness to experience could predict academic procrastination of students.
