Who Know the Chemical Pesticide Use In-Home Cause Cancers Risk Knowledge and Practice among Residents in Kerman City

Background and Aim: The most pesticides are considered toxic to human health and harmful to environment, and there is a positive association between pesticide exposure in household and chronic impacts of pesticides such as cancers. This study aimed to determine the knowledge and practice of residents regarding to chemical pesticide use in-home and cancers risk in Kerman city, southeast of Iran. Material and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from December 2018 to May 2019 in Kerman city. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data and interview was conducted by a well briefed team of vector biology and control students. All statistical analyses were performed using SPSS version 22Results: Totally, 189 residents were interviewed in Kerman city. The mean of age of partici pants in the study was 42.84 ± 11.35 and 54% were female. The results showed that 22% of the participants in this study had diploma education and 36% had college education. Most of residents 93.1% believed that the urban pest’s infestations are preventable by the use of chemical pesticide but did not know the good methods. The majority 68.8 % of residents believed that the chemical pesticide residue in homes may cause risk of some cancers such as lung cancer and skin cancer. The results of this study showed that there was a gener al lack of public knowledge among residents regarding to chemical pesticide residue risk.. Knowledge and practice of female was higher than male P-value=0.77Conclusion: In conclusion, the residents in this survey have weak knowledge regarding to chemical pesticide hazard. It is suggested to perform educational program in order to improve the resident’s knowledge level regarding chemical pesticide in Kerman city
