An Overview of accident events and safety preventative actions compliance in Fars province in 2016.

Back ground: Road traffic accidents are one of the most important disasters that cause public injury, fatality and great economic loss. They are a growing public health problem around the world. Deaths and serious injuries from road accidents remain a serious issue in developing countries such as Iran. This study was conducted to describe the epidemiology of accident events and preventive actions in Fars province. Methds: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted based on data abstracted from vizit.report site.Results: In 2016 the prevalence of accident events in Fars province was 7.76 % 95% CI (4.58- 10.94) and was ranked as the 19th province of Iran with regard to road accident events. The highest and lowest prevalence of road trafic events were reported to be in provinces of Zanjan 12.96% 95% CI (7.08-18.87) and Ardabil 4.96% 95% CI (0.26- 9.98) respectively. The prevalence of helmet compliance in Fars province was 7.37 % 95% CI (4.29- 10.46) and was ranked as the 25th province in Iran in this rgard.The prevalence of seat belt compliance was 73.52 % 95% CI (68.16- 78.88)and was ranked the 17th province in Iran in this regard. The prevalence of drunk driving was 0.75% 95% CI (0.21- 1.44) and was ranked as the 10th province in Iran in this regard.Conclusion: In Fars province, the prevalence of accident events is relatively high. However the prevalence of preventive actions compliance is relatively low. Development of new traffic rouls or Enforcement on rouls seems to be neccessary.Message to policy makers: To fulfil the goal of accident prevention and risk reduction in accident events, development of effecctive rouls in global level and enforcement in individual level seems to be neccessary
