Background and Objective : Cancer is one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide. About 1.500.000 new cancer cases and 589.000 cancer death has been estimated by the National Center for Health Statistics. In recent years, the use of nanoparticles for cancer treatment has attracted special attention. Gold nanoparticles with different characteristics and shapes and various functionalization groups can be used in cancer treatment. One of these formulations is polymer-coated gold nanoparticles that decorated with various polymers such as heparin, hyaluronic acid, chitosan. This surface decoration of AuNPs can be used to improve the stability of the NPS and the drug/nucleic acid delivery system for cancer therapy. Cancer drugs like DoxorubicinCan are loaded in magnetic gold nanoparticles. Thereby, they can be used as a drug delivery system. This study aimed to investigate the role of Gold nanoparticles application in cancer treatment. Search Method : In this review study, a total of 14 review articles, research studies published from 2015 to the end of 2018 in the database of Elsevier, Google Scholar, Pubmed using key words gold nanoparticles (NPs), Drug Delivery System and cancer treatment were researched and examined. Findings : A review of studies indicated Gold nanoparticles can specifically have triggered by light or beTargeted to cancer cells. Thermally triggered in situ assemblies of gold nanoparticles for photothermal cancer therapy is another important feature. Because of these particles can be smartly stimulated by various agents and carry a variety of drugs in treating different cancers such as colorectal, breast cancer, none small cell carcinoma, and pancreas carcinoma, they have a high cure rate potential in cancer treatment. Conclusion : According to evidence, Gold nanoparticles can be used in cancer treatment efficiency by the its role it as a drug delivery system.
