Temperament and bipolar disorder relation among patients referred to medical educational center

چکیده مقاله:

Background and Objective: Bipolar disorder is a chronic, debilitating one characterized by recurring periods of depression, mania or hypomania. Bipolar disorder was attributed to black bile (from the roots of Melon (Black) and Chole (bile)) or the same soda sputum in Iranian traditional medicine. So, this study was conducted to evaluate the temperament and bipolar disorder relation among those who referred to medical educational center. Materials and Methods: This study was a descriptive-analytic one among 40 patients with bipolar disorder by random sampling. Demographic and physiological questionnaires were used for data collection. Data were analyzed, using SPSS 23 and chi-square test. Results: 25% were in the mania phase, 40% in the depression phase and 35% were stable with a mean age of 36.12, 52.5% were female. 93.5% had low and middle income. 45% were single, 30% married and 25% were divorced. 60 percent of them were in the hot mania phase, 75% in the depression phase with cold temperament and 79% were stable; It was a significant difference between the temperaments of the different phases (p <0.05). Conclusion: The majority of them had more cold temperaments in different phases, which seems to be effective in the treatment of these patients by traditional medicine and changing their temperament.
