چکیده مقاله:

This paper presents the discussion on the role of metacognitive knowledge in the 21st century in educational context. It investigates the kinds of teaching and learning experiences based on metacognitive knowledge awareness. This paper draws relevant examples of a classroom based practice. The findings revealed that metacognitive awareness raising and its three components (person knowledge, task knowledge and strategy knowledge) could enable students to develop their performance in class setting. This study revealed the need for ESL/EFL teachers’ and educational program to provide teaching and learning context based on metacognitive knowledge to develop effective learning and teaching in academic context. The findings of the current investigation are beneficial for language practitioners, university teachers, and educational administrators.
