چکیده مقاله:

Introduction: A vast majority of plants are now being used as phytomedicines, some of which have scientific proof while some have purely holistic background. Aloe vera (AV) is a semi-tropical plant of Liliaceae family which has a wide range of applications in traditional medicine. The present study was aimed to reveal the healing properties of AV gel on the some molecular aspects of cutaneous wounds in male balb/c mice. Methods: animal models male balb/c mice were used and divided into 3 groups; 1- negative control (without wound), 2- sham-operated (wound treated with physiological serum) and 3- experimental (wound treated with AV gel extract). In each group, two equal full-thickness wounds were made on the mice back sides. Experimental group received daily a dose of AV gel extract on the top of wound sites (without bandage). On 8th and 16th post wounding days, to evaluate the TGF-β gene expression by RT-PCR technique and lipid peroxidation (LPO/MDA) content, skin and blood serum sampling were done respectively. Results: According to resulted data, in the AV gel-treated groups TGF-β gene expression was increased in the wound area. Meanwhile, in the end of test, it was also found that the amount of MDA as an end-product of LPO in blood sera was reduced in AV-treated mice. Conclusion: AV gel extract could induce TGF-β gene expression in mice damaged skin and dropped the content of LPO in mice blood samples as well showing a pivotal role for it in wound healing process.
