Knowledge, attitue and practice among nurses concerning pressure ulcer prevention and its relationship with some demographic characteristics

Introduction: Pressure ulcer is one of the indicators of quality in health care and nursing. Nurses one of the key members of the health team play an important role in the prevention of pressure ulcer in health care centers. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the knowledge, attitude and practice of nurses in the prevention of pressure ulcers is done.Methods: This descriptive-correlational study was conducted in 1395. Sampling is convenience and consisted Of 382 nurses working in teaching hospitals affiliated to Isfahan University of Medical Sciences. Data collection was performed using a Pieper questionnaire and self-made three-part questionnaire. The analysis of data using SPSS version 16, using descriptive and analytical statistics were performed. The significance level is considered (P<0/05).Results: In this study of 427 questionnaires, 382 questionnaires were completed by participants (78/3%). The mean score of knowledge, attitude and practice of nurses in the prevention of pressure ulcers than 100 scores, respectively.61/1, 63/3 and 62/1. The relationship between knowledge, attitude, practice nurses, age, gender, work experience, work place, and courses wound management was not significant (P> 0/05).Conclusion: Knowledge, attitude and practice of nurses in the prevention of pressure ulcers was in a relatively favorable level. Because of pressure ulcers is one of the events threatening patient safety; so managers of health care centers need to planning for empowering of health team, especially nurses.
