چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim : Several factors have an effect on the addiction potential, which in turn interact with each other, leading to the onset of consumption and then addiction. Among these factors, we can point to individual, psychological and social factors. The purpose of this study was to predict the addiction potential based on voluntary function, family communication pattern, coping strategies and demographic characteristics in young people. Methods : The research method was descriptive-correlational. The statistical population of the present study was the members of the Youth Organization of the Iranian Red Crescent Society. The sampling method was multi-stage cluster sampling, in which 620 volunteers from the Youth Organization of the Iranian Crescent Society from 175 cities were selected for this research. The research data were gathered using the Addiction Potential Questionnaire (Zargar et al), Voluntary Function Inventory (Clary et al), Family Communication Pattern Questionnaire (Ricci and Fitzpatrick), Coping Strategies Questionnaire (Billings and Mouse) and Demographic Characteristics Questionnaire. Then data was analyzed by Pearson correlation and multiple linear regression. Results : The results of the analysis showed that there was a significant negative correlation between addiction potential and voluntary functions, and voluntary functions could significantly predict addiction potential, meaning that voluntary functions indicated a decrease addiction potential. Conversation-orientation had a significant negative relationship with addiction potential and conformity-orientation had a significant positive correlation with addiction potential and these two orientations were able to significantly predict the addiction potential. Also, there was a significant negative correlation between problem-focused coping strategy and addiction potential, and there was a significant positive correlation between emotion-focused coping strategy and addiction potential. Both strategies were able to significantly predict addiction potential. Among demographic characteristics, only the place of residence was significantly associated with addiction potential. Voluntary function, family communication pattern and coping strategies could predict 35 percent of the variation in the criterion variable, namely, the addiction potential. Conclusion : It seems that the family communication pattern, along with other factors, including voluntary functions and coping with the problems of the person, plays a key role in the addiction potential and drug use, and the need for attention to these factors and it is essential in prevention programs.
