Background and Aim : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of emotional intelligence training on self-efficacy and self-control of people with addiction to the Internet.Methods : This quasi-experimental study was carried out using a one-way variance analysis (ANOVA) with pre-test and post-test design. The target population of the study was all people with addiction in the city of Tabriz. By a non-random sampling method, 120 people between 15 to 35 years old who had the criteria for using more than 4 hours of Internet per day was selected. They completed Sherer and Maddox s self-efficacy questionnaire and cognitive self-control questionnaire (Grasmick et al). Then, 30people who had the lowest scores in those scales were subjected to a 10-session intervention of emotional intelligence.Results : The results of ANOVA test and the effect size and recovery rates showed that emotional intelligence training has a significant role in increasing and improving the self-efficacy and self-control of people with internet addiction.Conclusion : Not having the ability to control and manage the optimal use of the Internet and cyberspace, lack of self-control is a hallmark of people with addiction to the Internet. The results of this study showed that training emotional intelligence skills can increase self-efficacy and self-control in people with Internet addiction, so use of emotional intelligence skills and interventions is recommended to increase self-efficacy and control and self-regulation
