چکیده مقاله:

Background: One of the most common risks that threatens human societies today is traffic accidents. Human factors, environmental factors and inefficiencies of the vehicle are three major factors that cause it. Meanwhile, alcohol consumption among drivers is one of human factors that increases the risk of accident in drivers and their passengers. So, in this present study, we evaluate the effect of alcohol consumption on Injury Severity Score of patients. Methods: The injury severity of road traffic patients referred to Shahid Rajaee Surgery Center in the second half of the year will be 96 reliable examples all accident patients in Fars province. The position of each person was determined as a passenger or driver in the event of an accident and drivers were taken from the alcohol test. The data with the diagnostic code S00.1 to S99.9 and T00.1 to T79.9 and the external cause V20 to V49.9 based on the International Classification of Diseases System ICD -10 was recorded. The ISS system was calculated for the severity of trauma with the highest accuracy of 1 to 75 based on the six main body regions of the body. Simple linear regression model was used to investigate the effect of alcohol consumption on severity of patients injury. Data analysis was performed using the stata14 statistical software. Results: Alcohol test has been positive in 253 patients from 3251 motor and car driver admitted in the hospital during the second half of 2018, including 45.06% of motorcycle accidents. The average age of alcohol users is 26.16 - 7.98 that 4.7% were female and 95.26% were male. The severity of injury in alcohol users was 6.34 - 8 73 and there was a significant difference between the two groups. Among alcohol users, there is a direct correlation between alcohol and severity of injury and significantly increases the severity of injury to patients with increased alcohol titers. The prevalence of alcohol intake in the ages at the accident time of 15 to 20 years is highest and decreases with age up to the age of 50. Linear regression results showed that alcohol consumption leaded to 2.61-unit increase in injury severity score at the time of the incident. Conclusion: The results indicate that alcohol consumption in the community is among drivers. In addition to weight of vehicle and safety belts, alcohol consumption is also a factor in the severity of injuries to drivers. The high prevalence of alcohol consumption among young people, especially motorcyclists, requires more control. Informing about the effects of alcohol consumption on the incidence of high-risk behaviors and the use of alcohol sensors in automobiles can be effective in reducing the mortality of road traffic injuries.
