چکیده مقاله:

Background: Pemphigus Vulgaris (PV) is an autoimmune blistering mucocutaneous disorder. Common treatments include corticosteroids drugs. This study aimed to investigate the effect of L-carnitine (LC) supplementation on glycemic indices in PV patients under corticosteroid treatment. Methods: Fifty two patients with pemphigus vulgaris were divided randomly into two groups to receive 2000 mg LC or a placebo. These patients were followed-up for an extended 8 weeks. Serum glycemic indices, were evaluated at baseline and end of intervention period. Results: LC intake was non-significant improvement in the serum of glycemic factors (insulin, FBS, HOMA-IR and QUICKI). (P > .05) after the 8-week intervention. Conclusions: These results indicate no significant effect on insulin, FBS, HOMA-IR, QUICK. large-scale studies are needed to confirm the potential clinical benefits of LC in patients with PV.
