چکیده مقاله:

The main goal of this project is studying a new respiratory system test method, Forced Oscillatory Technique (FOT). This technique can be used to obtain information on the condition of the respiratory tract that cannot be obtained by conventional breathing test methods. During FOT, the oscillation pressure induces an oscillation flow whose amplitude is inversely proportional to the mechanical impedance of the respiratory system. There are two FOT methods used for general diagnostic applications: single frequency and multiple frequencies. The multi-frequency method utilizes the oscillation frequencies and give computed values of resistance and reactance at different frequencies. This approach is used to assess for the presence and severity of airway obstructions. In this research, it was shown that by using a low frequency speaker with a power of about 120 dB and measuring the flow rate and airway pressure, this test can be performed either standalone or in conjunction with the ventilator. The advantage of using this technique within a ventilator is that the ventilator can be adjusted according to the condition of the patient s respiratory system. This back-bone can be used to investigate some respiratory problems also it is used for respiratory system modelling.
