A Comparison on hospital stay and burning causes in burn injured patients visiting Amir al Momenin burn hospital and Ghotbeddin Shirazi burn hospital, Shiraz (2015-2017)

Introduction: Burn is a common health problem in the world, especially in developing countries. The present study aims to perform an epidemiological study of relationship between hospitalization and burning causes in patients referring to Amir al Momenin burn hospital and Ghotbeddin Shirazi burn hospital during 2015-2017.Methods: The study was a cross sectional study which was done on patients hospitalized in Amir al Momenin burn hospital and Ghotbeddin Shirazi burn hospital during 2 years (2015-2017). Data was extracted from registry software and after necessary information processing; data were entered into spss.16 software and investigated by using statistical test.Results: Of the 1533 patients studies, 63.5% were male and 36.5% were female, the mean age of patients was 26±20.39 years and the mean hospital stay was 29±10.36 days and the most common cause of burn was fire (35%). The mean of hospital stay in burn patients with electricity, fire and explosion were 17.66, 16.47, 14.69 respectively and there were statistically significant correlation between these items and the mean of hospital stay in burns patients with liquids (11.41) while there were no statistically significant correlation between these items and the mean of hospital stay in burns patients with chemicals and objects (P<0.001).Conclusion: The findings indicate that burns with fire, explosion and electricity cause longer hospital stay than liquids, objects and chemicals.
