چکیده مقاله:
Background: The underlying causes of intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) are important because they are effective in controlling and preventing of this event. The aim of this study was to identify the risk factors for intrauterine growth restriction and the possible etiological agents. Methods: This was a case-control study, which was carried out by three hospitals affiliated to Tehran University of Medical Sciences. A case was defined as a newborn whose birth weight was less than the 10th percentile of the weight for gestational age, the control being a newborn whose birth weight was between the 10th and the 90th percentile of the weight for gestational age. Risk estimates were obtained by logistic regression and adjusted for confounders. Results: In this case-control study, 83 pregnant women with IUGR and 75 pregnant women with normal fetuses participated. After adjusting the variables, an increased risk of IUGR was seen in obese (odds ratio (OR) 2.4, 95% CI 1.7-3.4), when compared to normal weight women. Also Multi gravidity and repeat caesarian section were significantly associated with the IUGR status. The proportion of preeclampsia, diabetes, heart diseases and asthma among the women with IUGR were significantly higher than in the control group. The mean score of Apgar 1 and 5 in the IGUR group was significantly lower than that in the control group Conclusion: to decrease the IUGR neonate, more emphasis should be put on screening programs to early identify IUGR in pregnant women. To detect of the risk factors indicate the directions for planning intervention programs
