The Relationship between Coping Strategies and Quality of Life in Nurses: A Cross-sectional Study

Background:Coping strategies are processes in the personality structure that affect the psychological compilation and adaptation with environment, so the necessity of investigating the relationship between coping strategies and quality of life, which plays a key role in the psychosocial health of nurses, is inevitable. Considering the importance of this study, the aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between coping strategies and quality of nurses working in selected educational centers of Rasht.Methods: The present study is an analytical cross-sectional study that was performed on 200 nurses working in al-Zahra and 17 Shahrivar medical centers in Rasht in 2017, which were included with census sampling. The instrument was a questionnaire of quality of life (SF-36) and a defensive style questionnaire (DSQ-40) that was distributed among the nurses when they signed inform consent and after the completion of the work. The data were analyzed by SPSS software version 21 using descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation) and inferential statistics (Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis).Results: The results of this study show that there is a significant and positive correlation between two components of quality of life (mental health and social functioning of nurses) with coping strategies (P <0.05).Conclusion:The results of this study show that coping strategies have a positive relationship with quality of life, so that nurses who use optimally coping strategies have higher quality of life.
