Evaluation of Generel English textbook of Payame Noor University in Kahnooj city

The purpose of this study was to analyze the General English book which is taught at Payame Noor University forBA students of many different majors such as: Biology, Social Science, Business Management, Psychology, Sociology,Law and Consultation, to examine whether the book satisfied students regarding content, vocabulary and grammar ,and exersises and activities. To this end, a sample of 116 students in the above mentioned majors with their age rangebetween 19 and 26 participated in this study. They were asked to answer the questionnaire about their General Englishbook according to content, vocabulary and grammar , and exersises and activities of their book. The instrument usedfor collecting the data was a questionnaire with 21 items. This checklist was based on recent research in secondlanguage instruction and checklists for general textbook evaluation which used elements of Byrd s(2001) andSkierso s(1991) checklists. This checklist was translated to Persian by the researcher to meet the requirements of thestudy objective.Each item of the questionnaire consisted of eight options (excellent, good, adequate, poor, totally lacking, mandatory,optional, not applicable) about the content, vocabulary and grammar, exercises and activities of book. The resultsindicated that the general English book for the above students in the study satisfied BA students of Payame Nooraccording to the answer of the checklist. Teachers may use this checklist to make a decision between two potentialreading textbooks or a greater number. Begin by assigning a weight (M-Mandatory, O-Optional,or N-Not applicable) toeach question while keeping in mind the reader’s function in the class ,Then rate it (4-Excellent, 3-Good, ect.) for asmany questions as possible to their objectives and needs. This study could be helpful for educational department ofPayame Noor University to improve the quality of General English book. The results indicated that the General Englishbook of Payeme Noor university for students in the study satisfied BA students regarding content, vocabulary andgrammar, exercises and activities of their.
