The Effect of Collaborative Pre-Reading Activities on English Foreign Language Learners Incidental Vocabulary Learning

Collaborative learning is an educational approach to teaching and learning that involves groups ofstudents working together to solve a problem, complete a task, or spelling a product. It can be used toteach all four major skills. However, the purpose of this research was to investigate the effect ofcollaborative pre- reading activities on Iranian EFL learner s incidental vocabulary learning. To thispurpose, 60 participants were selected from three different classes as the sample, male and female,aging from 17 to 23. The researcher arranged two groups, an experimental and a control. First all theparticipants were given a vocabulary pre-test and then experimental group was taught the new wordsusing the pre – reading activities, which were done collaboratively and the control group received nospecial instruction prior to reading activities. The whole process took 10 weeks to accomplish .Afterthis, the researcher gave them the vocabulary post – test in order to find out the possible effects oftreatment. Analysis is of the data through ANCOVA showed through an independent test. Students ofEFL, English teachers, and practitioners can benefit from the finds of this can have implications forsyllabus designers and teachers.
