Pragmatic Analysis of Political Speech: Analysis of Existential Presuppositions Used in Jorge Carlos De Almeida Fonseca’s Speech, President of the Republic of Cabo Verde, in 73th Session of the United Nations General Assembly Annual General Debate

Presupposition is one of the topics in semantic study and Pragmatics. In this paper the researcher is moreconcerned about the discussion presupposition in pragmatic studies, where presupposition is in one s mind abouteverything that exists in the world. In this paper the researcher used descriptive research method. All ExistentialPresuppositions came from President Fonseca’s speech file in 73th Session of the United Nations General AssemblyAnnual General Debate downloaded from United Nation website and then analyzed by the theory proposed by Yule(1996). Presuppositions used as properties of language to mold listener/reader ideology. This study showed howPresident Fonseca used Existential Presuppositions to mold viewer ideology.
