Considerations to Drive EPB-Shield TBM Safely Based on the Technology Development Process for Various Conditions

Earth Pressure Balanced shield Tunneling Boring Machine (EPB-shield TBM) stabilizes the face by controlling chamber pressure filled with excavated soil to resist earth and water pressure. Recently EPB-shield TBM has been applied to wide range of ground conditions, such as low overburden and high water pressure. It has been also appliedto large boulder by equipping with ribbon screw conveyor. This paper discusses the technology development process for various conditions and the important considerations to drive EPB-shield TBM safely
