چکیده مقاله:
Increased water demand as the result of the world’s population growth requires new alternative water sources. Oil and gas produced water (PW) can serve as a promising alternative water resource if the many pollutants are removed to below the standards at a reasonable cost. The present research investigates the possible use of bioinspired adsorbents for the removal of lead and chromium as heavy metals from oil and gas produced waters. Many adsorbents were extensively studied and five bio-adsorbents of rice husk, brown algae, saccharomyces cerevisiae, coconut shell and sugarcane bagasse were chosen as the best adsorbents of heavy metals due to their surface functional groups. After the feasibility study, brown algae was chosen and more research was conducted to determine the leading algae specie for the mentioned purpose. Results showed that Sargassum Sp. possessed the highest uptake for lead and chromium; having an uptake of ۲۳.۰۵ mg/g and ۲۰.۰۴ mg/g for lead and chromium, respectively, under the produced water conditions.
