Assessment of adiposity by triceps skinfold thickness (TST) in school children of Shiraz, Iran

Triceps skinfold thickness (TST) charts of random sample of 2234 healthy school children (1161 boys and 1073 girls) of Shiraz (Iran) are presented for the first time. TST increases by age and is higher in girls than boys, except for upper extreme centiles. TST may be used with reasonable success to detect childhood obesity, which would be of great importance in public health promotion and enjoys adequacy yet simplicity for screening adiposity. The charts presented here are likely to be applied to urban population of school aged children of Iran, which should be updated periodically.
