Structure and experience of seizure surgery in children in Shiraz, center of pediatric epilepsy surgery in southern of IRAN

Surgical treatment of epilepsy is becoming a well-established therapy for infants and young children with severe, medically intractable seizures. Epilepsy surgery in childhood can now be more readily considered as a result of enhanced presurgical investigative techniques and safer neurosurgical practice. For creation of a standard pediatric epilepsy center some important factors are needed. Nemaze hospital as a largest center of epilepsy treatment and surgery of children in the South of IRAN has good and academic standard structure. Academic committee build up of epileptologist ,pediatric neurologist and neurosurgeon and anesthesiologist and ICU man is the base of this center. suitable preoperative devices for evaluation of children ,equipped operation room and ICU room are some of our center equipment. In the last 4 years we have 86 surgey for treatment of refractory epilepsy in children. corpus callosotomy, lesionectomy, lobectomy, hemispherectomy and vagal nerve stimulation wee done in our center. Good clinical results were obtain from these operations.
