چکیده مقاله:

Crystal meth is the common name for crystal methamphetamine, a strong and highly addictive drug that affects the central nervous system. Tolerance is characterized by a need for a larger dose of a medication to maintain the original effect. Drug tolerance can involve both psychological drug tolerance and physiological factors. The aim of this study is investigating the improving meth tolerance in male rats. 21 adult male Wistar rats weighting 250± 20 g were randomly divided into 3 groups: control, sham (Saline), crystal meth (10 mg/kg). Intraperitoneal injection (I.P) was used in groups except control group for 5 consecutive days. The tail-flick test was used in rats to elicit a spinal tail-flick response to noxious thermal stimuli. This test was used to measure the latency of the response as described by D’amour and Smith with modifications. The time elapsed (in seconds) till the animal flicked its tail was determined. The test was done before and after crystal meth administration. A cutoff time of 10 seconds was used to prevent tissue damage. Data analysis by using one way ANOVA. In current study, chronic administration of crystal meth increased the drug tolerance during 5 days in comparison with control and sham groups. Also crystal meth has antinociceptive effects. It seems when someone continues to use crystal meth, he builds up a tolerance. That means he needs higher doses to get the same high. The higher the dose, the higher the risks.
