چکیده مقاله:

Thymol is one of the main ingredients of plants such as Thyme. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of thymol on reducing the damage caused by ethanol on B92 glial cells. B92 cells (1×106 cell/ml) were transferred to 96 plates and incubated with various thymol concentrations (i.e. 0, 12.5, 25, 50 and 100 μM) for 24 hours. The cells were then mixed for 80 minutes with absolute ethanol at concentrations of 86 mM. Finally, the viability of the cells was evaluated with neutral red (NR) uptake and the MTT tests. The results of the MTT test showed that thymol has the most protective effect on mitochondrial performance at a concentration of 12.5 μM and it inhibits ethanol toxicity. Also, the NR test showed that 12.5 and 50 μM thymol significantly reduces the damage to membrane performance. The use of Thymol at low concentrations may have protective and cytoprotective effects on glial cells
