Application of nano painting on the exterior walls of buildings wasconsidered as a passive method aiming to reduce heating load. In thisinvestigation, the data of energy consumption for heating of a residentialbuilding complex have been collected for eight years, during fall andwinter. Also, a mathematical model was developed in order to calculatethe amounts of required energy to maintain comfort temperature of 20℃.The proposed model was verified by the actual data. Comparisonbetween the actual data of energy consumptions for both unpainted andpainted conditions indicated that higher amounts of energy was neededfor unpainted exterior surfaces. This can be described with the lowerwetting ability of nano paint which was made it as a moisture barrierduring humid/rainy times. In addition, the lower convective heat transfercoefficients of the air due to the smooth surface of the nano paint surfacewill reduce the heating load. Also, low enough thermal conductivity ofnano paint (0.07 mm thickness, 0.075 (W/m℃)) was illustrated theeffective multifunctional role of nano paint in reduction of heating load.
