چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim: High body fat (BF) percentage (above 30% in women and 23% in men) despite normal Body Mass Index (BMI= 18.5-24.9 kg/m2) is defined as normal weigh obesity (NWO).The aim of the present study was to determine the association between NWO and MetS indicators, insulin resistance (IR), inflammatory and oxidative stress indices in NWO women in comparison to normal weight referring to Emam Reza medical center, shiraz_ IranMethods: In this case-control study 41 healthy NWO women were recruited from nutrition clinic and compared to 45 healthy non obese control subjects. Anthropometric measurements, body composition, blood pressure, fasting insulin, C Reactive Protein (CRP), malondialdehyde (MDA) and other components of metabolic syndrome were measured. Insulin resistance were assessed by means of special formula as well. Results: The differences of anthropometric measurements and body composition including waist and hip circumferences, body fat, skeletal muscle, protein, body cell mass, bone mass content, and Arm circumference were statistically significant between the NWO and control groups. All subjects had a normal systolic and diastolic blood pressure. The NWO women had significantly higher Triglyceride, Total cholesterol and CRP serum concentration. Moreover the insulin sensitivity based on McAuley test was significantly lower in NWO womenConclusion: these outcomes recommends that using only BMI to distinguish subjects who are at risk of metabolic disorders may fail to identify an important fraction of the population who, despite having a normal BMI, present excess BF and are also at high risk of metabolic imbalances.
