Background and Aim: Salt iodization is the best way to prevent iodine deficiency disorders. This study was conducted to find out how common the trend of using iodized salt in the urban areas of Shiraz is.Methods: In this study, citizens were asked to bring their salt samples to seventeen dieticians in different comprehensive health centers of urban areas in Shiraz. Sample’s data were collected by the dieticians and the contents of iodine were also tested by them.Results: Among 698 salt samples, 582 (83.38%) were refined iodized salt, but 21 (3%), 24 (3.43%), and 70 (10.02%) families tended to use mountain, bulk, and sea salt. 50 fortified Samples were without iodine, while it was claimed iodized salt on the package.Conclusion: Most people use iodized salt, but others also need to be convinced about the necessity and importance of using the iodized form of salt. The salt industry has to be warned against bringing the iodine-free salt as the iodized salt to the market.
