چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim: We aimed to examine associations between muscle strength and abdominal obesity and serum lipid profile in Ravansar Non-communicable Disease (RaNCD) Cohort Study. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 6455 subjects aged 35-65 years old from baseline data of RaNCD in Iran. Hand grip strength used as a proxy for overall muscle strength was measured by dynamometer. The associations between grip strength and adiposity measures were explored using linear regression with adjustment for age, height, smoking status, alcohol intake, social class, and prevalent disease. Results: Every percent increase in percent body fat (PBF) decreased the mean muscular strength by -0.242(-0.327,-0.158) kg in men, and by -0.170(-0.231,-0.109) kg in women (P<0.001). Multivariate regression analysis revealed a 3.24 (95% CI: 2.29, 4.19, P trend <0.001) kg difference between BMI in top and bottom in men, and 1.71 (95%CI: 0.98, 2.34, P trend <0.001) kg/m2 in women. After multivariable adjustment, a difference of 2.04(95% CI: 1.12,2. 97, P trend <0.001) kg was observed between the top and bottom waist circumference quartiles in men and 1.25 (95% CI: 0.51, 1.98, P trend=0.009) kg in women.Muscular strength increased with increasing WC in both sexes.. In men, with increase of LDL-c and cholesterol, the mean muscle strength was significantly increased. Conclusion: Muscular strength can be an appropriate indicator for predicting some of the problems caused by body composition disorders and dyslipidemia, which requires further longitudinal studies.
