چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim: Energy-protein malnutrition is a common problem in hemodialysis patients and has different outcomes such as reduction of quality of life, longer hospitalization time, lower dialysis adequacy, and higher mortality rate. The present study aims to investigate the effects of ISO-WHEY on nutritional status. Methods: In a clinical trial study, 44 hemodialysis patients who allocated randomly in two groups:intervention group(n=22), control group(n=22). In intervention group, as prescribed and controlled by nutritionists and nephrologists, a cup (24 gr) of Iso-Whey protein powder were used for two months on daily basis. For both groups, before intervention and one and two months after intervention nutritional status was measured based on DMS. Then, data was analyzed using SPSS21.Results: In the present study, of 44 patients, 41completed the study and before intervention, both groups were equal in quality and quantity variables (P> 0.05). After intervention, investigation of nutritional status based on DMS showed a significant statistical difference in two groups (P=0.03).Conclusion: Findings show that using Iso-Whey oral supplements leads to improvement of nutritional status in hemodialysis patients. Therefore, use of nutritional supplements along with patients training and regular consultation will be helpful in improvement of nutritional status and eventually quality of life.
