The Distribution of Vibrio Bacteria Isolated From The Surface Waters In North East Khuzestan Province

Introduction and Objectives:Vibrio species are gram negative bacteria that is usually found in marine environment and fresh water.12 species of this genus is pathogenic for human kind and is transmitted to man via drinking contaminated water and sea food consumption and causes gastroenteritis diseases.the main goal of the study is to investigate the distribution and frequency of pathogenic species of Vibrio in north east khuzestan province surface waters in spering 2017.Materials and Methods:The TCBS and APW culture media were used for primary isolation of Vibrio and the exact species identification were done by performing the following tests;Oxidase reaction,salt tolerance,growth at 40C and 400C,Lysine and Ornithine decarboxylase,Arginine dehydrolase,ONPG and VP test,Simmon citrate,Bile esculine,Indole,CAMP reaction and stering test.The V.cholerae strains isolated were serotype by specific antisera to V.cholerae O1.Results:A total of one Vibrio specie was isolated from surface water included V.cholerae non-O1. also this study showed that the northern waters of Khuzestan province have at least one species of Vibrio .Conclusion:This study showed that biochemical tests are suitable for the detection of Vibrio species in surface waters.
