The effect of graphite upon brazability of ferrous powder metallurgy components using Anchorbraze 72 filler metal

This paper deals with brazing ferrous powder metallurgy components using Anchorbraze 72 filler metal at various graphite additions.Two brazing conditions namely simultaneous sinter-brazing and brazing after sintering were performed. Alloying constituents in the filler metal led to various phases in the brazing zone. Nickel and copper concentration were detected near the surface while manganese and silicon reacted with oxygen and carbon and were observed around the pores. Microstructure and properties were evaluated using optical and electron microscopes together with microhardness tests.
